School Visits by SP K-Mushambi

I am available for school visits and would love to discuss the themes in the story and share the inspiration behind The Mysterious Melody with the students.

The recommended age group for The Mysterious Melody is 6 to 11. I love interacting with children of this age as they are curious to learn about the different experiences of other children, and they are full of questions! I am happy to devise a specific workshop for a school, but the examples below give a flavour of what I can offer:

Option I – Author Q&A Format (ages 8-12)

I use my experience in writing the book to discuss the writing process and the general creative process for any artistic endeavour.

  • Introduction with slides including book trailer
  • Quick Q&A with children about what they are reading.
  • A reading from the book “The Mysterious Melody” with a quick discussion on the themes/values that arise from the passage e.g Self-Confidence, Friendship, Honesty, Respect, Determination, Love and Understanding.
  • Slides describing how I wrote the book and how I worked with my illustrator (for older children)
  • Wrap up – questions from the children

Option II – Boardgame Format (ages 8-10)

I offer an interactive workshop in which the children play a board game that is based on the themes and characters of my book “The Mysterious Melody”.

  • Introduction with slides including book trailer
  • A reading from the book “The Mysterious Melody” with a quick discussion on the themes/values that arise from the passage e.g. Self-Confidence, Friendship, Honesty, Respect, Determination, Love and Understanding.
  • Time to play the boardgame! As they navigate along their chosen path the children will discuss how good values can carry them forward and bad values can set them back while trying to achieve a specific goal, for example:
    • Being safe
    • Being kind
    • Being respectful
    • Following rules

Option III – Early Years Visit Format (ages 4-7)

Interactive Story time for Early Years and Reception

I will lead a storytelling session based on “The Mysterious Melody” with participation from the children, who will create their own rhythm to accompany the story with African drums and shakers.

Here is the Advance Information Sheet for The Mysterious Melody.
