The Mysterious Melody, by SP K-Mushambi

What is the sound that wakes them up in the morning? Can twins Naniso and Shinga find the source of The Mysterious Melody?

The Mysterious Melody has been longlisted for the inaugural 2020 Diverse Book Awards, in the Children’s category.

Twins Naniso and Shinga live in England. They find each other annoying, but when it comes to the crunch, they always have each other’s back. When they are both awakened in the early hours of the morning by a mysterious melody, they join forces to find the source.

With a little help from some unlikely friends, they find the origin of the sound, open a portal to their Zimbabwean heritage and begin a journey of discovery into what makes them who they are!

The Mysterious Melody is the debut children’s book by SP K-Mushambi. This is a story of 2 ordinary twins who have an extraordinary adventure, meet some unexpected friends, and find out who they really are. If you know any children, aged 7-11, who are interested in learning a little bit more about Zimbabwe or Africa, and maybe a little bit of the Shona language as well, then this book is for them!

About the Author

SP K-Mushambi

SP K-Mushambi is happiest when she is creating. It could be writing a song, baking a yummy cake or inventing her own version of the latest dance craze (which according to reliable sources means she is doing it all wrong). She enjoys getting to know different cultures and how they are related to her own heritage.

Born in England and raised in Zimbabwe, she has had a career in banking and corporate treasury which spans over twenty years. She lives in Berkshire with her husband and their two daughters.

The book is based on the author’s experience of raising a family in what is commonly called the Zimbabwean diaspora. It shares with the next generation some of the stories and culture and history that the author and so many others took for granted as they grew up.

About the Illustrator

The amazing illustrations in the book are by Kudzai Gumbo who currently lives and works in Scotland. You can see more of his work on Facebook.
